The American Legion Neal Thomas Jr. Centennial Post 209 Honor Guard is made up of volunteers willing to commit to making a difference supporting OUR Veterans and OUR Community. The Honor Guard membership knows what it means to be a veteran and/or veteran family and to honor veterans. The Honor Guard is comprised of members from:
- The American Legion, who are Veterans from any of the Armed Services of the United States,
- The American Legion Auxiliary, and
- Sons of The American Legion.
Duties of the Honor Guard include:
- Render Military Funeral Honors for Veterans,
- Carry the Flag of the United States,
- Carry the American Legion flag,
- Carry other organizational flags as required,
- Carry, maintain, and fire ceremonial firearms – specifically the M1 Garand (Color Guard) and AR-15 (Rifle Honors), and
- Learn and follow the Manual of Arms.
The primary mission of the Post 209 Honor Guard is rendering Military Funeral Honors, also known as Final Honors, to departed veterans. This is an honor we hold sacred, and are committed to maintaining military bearing, appearance and professionalism as befits the honor due to one who wore the uniform. We believe loved ones and military families deserve no less.
