HOMELESS

• Mount Carmel – In 2023 assumed responsibility for the The El Paso County Homeless Veterans Coalition (EPCHVC) veteran homeless programs focused on assisting Homeless Veterans and their families in Colorado Springs & El Paso County improve their situations by providing access to both long and short term solution based resources through their Annual “Stand Down” event in October and the follow on 30 day Transitional Housing Program (THI) for eligible Veterans and Veteran family units.

• Veteran Homeless Prevention Program. The The El Paso County Homeless Veterans Coalition (EPCHVC) Homeless Prevention Program (HPP) transitioned to Neal Thomas Jr. Centennial Post 209 American Legion Riders in 2023. The program is run of referrals through Mount Carmel and the Post 209 service officer

• VA Homeless Veterans Initiative – The American Legion Neal Thomas Jr. Centennial Post 209 is very interested in homelessness prevention and support. To that end, we invite you to click on the link and learn about the VA’s initiative to end Veteran homelessness, which contains information about resources for homeless and at-risk Veterans and their families such as:

  • Housing assistance
  • Employment programs
  • Health care
  • Mental health services
